Sayward residents with too much trash can get some relief this month at the Sayward Clean Up days.
On July 15 and 16, Comox Strathcona Waste Management, the Strathcona Regional District and Tire Stewardship BC will be helping villagers take a load off at the Main Road Yard, 797 Island Highway.
“The scrap tires that are collected will be recycled and turned into new products such as community playground surfaces, athletic tracks, recreational flooring in ice skating areas, fitness rooms and home gym mats,” a release from Tire Stewardship BC says.
Other accepted materials are:
- Scrap metal
- Household furniture
- Large appliances - www.marrbc.ca
- Small appliances - www.electrorecycle.ca
- Car and truck tires
- All types of batteries - www.call2recycle.ca
- All types of household electronics - www.return-it.ca
- Electric outdoor power equipment - www.opeic.ca/how-it-works
- All ProductCare items including paint and thinners, old gasoline in approved containers, light bulbs, ballasts and some pesticides - www.productcare.org.
NOT accepted:
- Drywall
- Unlabelled or unidentifiable Household Hazardous Waste
- Diesel
- Motor oil, filters or antifreeze including empty containers (accepted at the Sayward Recycling Depot)
- Fertilizers
- Compressed gas cylinders
