The Campbell River No. 1 Autobody Bantam A Tyees joined forces with White Hat Cleaners in their recent Coats for Kids campaign.
With a great assist from one of Mrs. Claus’ helpers, Mrs. Kew, the team collected more than 230 coats that were cleaned free of charge by White Hat Cleaners before being passed along to the Salvation Army for distribution to those in need.
“This is an initiative I have been wanting to do for some time now with the teams I have coached and finally took the opportunity this season to make it a priority,” said head coach Vince Devlin.
“We are very well supported by our community and this is our turn to help others. No-one, especially a child or young person, should go cold in our city during the winter months. Our players appreciate the opportunities they have earned and been provided.
“This coat drive helps to remind them that there are others, possibly even friends or classmates, who are not as fortunate. Coaching, particularly in youth sports, is much more than just personal skill and team development.
“It is also about utilizing teaching moments to convey a life lesson to help these young adults grow and develop into respectful members of our community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this campaign and to those who assisted our efforts.”
