It was a heatwave in Nanaimo last weekend, and the Salmon Kings were on fire at the 49th Annual Nanaimo White Rapids Swim Club Invitational Meet at the Kin Outdoor Pool.
The Campbell River summer swim club had 16 athletes compete, with great results. The Nanaimo swim meet is very well attended, with some clubs from the mainland participating, because of the format used. Heats are timed, with the top 6 swimmers in each division qualifying for a finals race in the same event at the end of the day. This is very similar to how the Vancouver Island Regionals meet is run. The stakes are high as the top three competitors in each event win medals and fourth through sixth win ribbons. Many of the Salmon Kings came home with some great hardware.
