Campbell River javelin athletes have brought home several medals in recent competitions

Two golds and one bronze at both the Provincial Championships and the BC Summer Games were brought back to Campbell River by three River City elite athletes.

Hayley Hunter won her fourth consecutive provincial title in Kamloops last week with a winning throw of 35.77 metres.

Hunter continued her gold medal performance at this past weekend’s BC Summer Games with a winning distance of 38.46 m.

Nairee Paulus, who participated in her first provincial championships, finished third with a throw of 29.37 m.  At the Summer Games, Paulus brought home a bronze medal with a throw of 33.93 m.  Paulus is a 14 year old competing in the Midget Division (14-15 year olds), so this result is a great accomplishment.

Not to be outdone, Greg Hay won his third consecutive provincial crown with a throw of 44.92 m.  Hay saved his best throw for his last attempt at the Summer Games.  With the crowd behind him, he hoisted his personal best throw of 50.07 m.

The trio will be continuing their training to get ready for the Legion National Youth Track Championships in Langley next month.
