The BC Seniors Games are held annually for those fifty-five years of age and older.
Swimmers from Zone two (Vancouver Island North including Powell River) brought home 98 medals when they competed at the 2013 games in Kamloops August 22-24.
Helen Sharpe, the only swimmer from the Campbell River area, was a major contributor to the team, winning a total of seven medals in the women’s 60-64 age category.
Sharpe’s medal count consisted of three gold – in the 100m breaststroke, 25m breaststroke and 100m backstroke; two silver, one in each of the 200m freestyle and 100m medley relay; and two bronze – for 50m backstroke and 100m medley relay.
“Participating in the 2013 Games with Zone two swimmers was a tremendous privilege,” Sharpe said.
“This team has everything to be proud of, not only the results but the team spirit, support, and good will – truly living up to the spirit of games.”
Campbell River swimmers are encouraged to take part in the Seniors Games next year in Langley from September 9-13, 2014.

The BC Seniors Games is an annual, multi-sport event featuring more than 24 different sports and activities.
Approximately 3,500 seniors participate each year.
