Game one took place on Saturday morning against Nanaimo and the Hurricanes came out strong, skating to a convincing 10-0 win. Samarah Drygasuk scored an impressive 5 goals while Dexter Manrique potted a hatrick with her rocket of a shot. Goalie Mackenna Harris recorded the shut-out. Drysaguk was awarded the MVP honors and Kaylie Riecker was given the Heart and Hustle award for her hard work throughout the game.

Game two would be a tighter affair as the Hurricanes took the ice against a solid Abbotsford team. This was a back and forth game that would be tied with three minutes remaining before the Hurricanes took the final lead. 3-2 was the final score and Drygasuk netted all three of the Hurricanes goals. Kiana Danielson was awarded the MVP for her efforts and playmaking and Mackinley Whalen was given the Heart and Hustle award for her strong work in the win.

The third game took place bright and early Sunday morning when the Hurricanes faced a tough Saanich team who came to play. The Hurricanes found themselves down 5-1 in the first frame but clawed their way within a couple of goals by the time the game concluded. 8-6 was the final tally. Callee Stromme was awarded the MVP for her 3 point effort and Emma Deagle was given the Heart and Hustle honors for her work ethic in the game. The Hurricanes finished second in their pool in the round robin.

The Hurricanes were on the road early again Monday morning to face Delta in the semi finals. Both teams battled hard and the Hurricanes had many great chances but there would be no score until nearly halfway through the game, in part due to the very strong net minding of the Delta goalie. Delta would eventually put one in half way through the second period and score another one early in the third and despite all of the Hurricanes efforts, they couldn’t answer. The final score would be 2-0 for Delta. Elizabeth Bettenson was awarded MVP for great defensive work and Shanna Speck was given the Heart and Hustle honor for her tenacity on the puck.

The Bronze medal game took place later Monday morning and the Hurricanes faced off against the host team, the Oceanside Icebreakers. It was clear from the start that the Campbell River squad were determined to win this one and they got on the board first with a goal from Deagle in the opening frame. Drygasuk would then achieve a natural hattrick in the second frame before Oceanside would net their only goal of the game to beat the buzzer. The third period was scoreless and the final tally was 4-1 for the Hurricanes, earning them the Bronze medal. Danielson got three helpers and Lakeisha McCarthy played a strong game to help the team to victory. Akira Isaak was given the MVP nod for her awesome passing and defensive contributions and Harris was given the Heart and Hustle for her hard work making saves in the net.

The Hurricanes are so far undefeated with a 9-0-1 record in the league standings and with 4 games remaining, they look forward to seeing how the season concludes before heading to their playoffs in Victoria and season wind-up tournament in Richmond in March.
