Get off the fossil fuel bandwagon; the time for energy transition is now

A personal message to Premier Eby: Your recent, humanitarian visits to the Shuswap and Okanagan sites of horrendously intense, home-destroying fires would have more legitimacy if your government wasn’t busy locking BC into a fossil fuel future.

Your plans to build four more liquified natural gas (LNG) facilities will only increase the number and intensity of wildfires and drought conditions. Please take seriously the “Frack Free BC” movement in our province. Stop damaging good farm and forest lands in northeast B.C. through the hydraulic fracturing (fracking) process. Stop despoiling vast quantities of our precious fresh waters up there to flush out the gas. Stop building more gas pipelines across First Nations’ traditional territories. Stop all plans for more LNG plants.

Contrary to what Fortis Gas claims, natural gas is anything but a “clean” fuel. It consists mainly of methane, a highly potent greenhouse gas.

Mr. Premier – get off the fossil fuel bandwagon and get our province more thoroughly behind clean energy development. The time for an energy transition is now!
