Our family celebrates the wonderful life of our Great-Grandma, Grandma, Mom, Auntie and Friend, Winn, who lived an ADVENTUROUS 98 YEARS!! She passed away peacefully in her sleep at Yucalta Lodge in Campbell River with her devoted children Maggie and Bob at her side.

Winnie was born in Neepawa Manitoba in the year 1909. As a young child her family moved to Turner Bay on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Later, in Blaine Washington, 1923, she met and fell in love with her future husband, Reo Alexander Prendergast. Reo and Winn married in 1925 and together they went on to pioneer the Pacific West Coast logging industry. Reo cut the trees and Winn fed all the hungry boys in camp! They brought up their 3 children, Les, Margaret (Maggie) and Bob in logging camps all along the coast of Vancouver Island.

In 1957, after many years of hard work, Reo and Winn retired and bought their dream home on the bank of the Campbell River and lived there the rest of their lives. They were beloved members of the Campbell River community. Winn had the most beautiful garden in town and together she and Reo enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii as well as traveling the open road in their motor home across Canada and the US.

Winnie was a creative soul, a voracious reader and writer, an accomplished seamstress, an amazing and loving cook, a member of the Eagles and a student of personal development and growth. She studied all religions and was in a constant quest to find the meaning of life.

Winn was predeceased by her husband of 75 years, Reo, her eldest son Leslie and his wife Pat, her sister-in-law, Jean Turner, Jean’s daughter (Winn’s niece) Rosalie Turner, and her grandchildren, Danny Prendergast and Janice Simmons. Her brother, Bob Turner, her daughter, Maggie and her youngest son, Bob and his wife Rosemary survive her. She is also survived by a huge family of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and many, many, many loving friends, all of whom will miss her sweet face and indomitable spirit.

We want to extend a special, heartfelt thank you to the incredible staff of Yucalta Lodge as well as the many home care ladies that brought sunshine daily to Winn’s life. Words cannot express how lovingly cherished and cared for they made Winn feel during her time of need.

We would like to extend an invitation to relatives, friends and all, as we celebrate Winifred’s life at a memorial in her honor. It will be held at Yucalta Lodge February 25th at 2:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Winifred can be designated to Yucalta Lodge in care of Campbell River Hospital Foundation, 381 2nd Avenue, Campbell River BC V9W 3V1.
