WILLIAM CHARLES “BILL” PETRIE

October 7, 1926 - April 5, 2011

Bill Petrie passed away on April 5, 2011 at age 84. He is very sadly missed by his loving wife, Rita; they had been married for 62 years.

Bill was born in Kamsak, Saskatchewan on October 7, 1926. His family moved from the farm when Bill was a young boy to the wild west coast of British Columbia. He grew up on Quadra Island and first became a commercial fisherman while still a teenager. Bill met Rita on Cortes Island and after marrying they moved to Campbell River in 1952.

Although Bill worked in the logging industry and on tugboats up and down the coast, he was best known as a commercial fisherman for most of his life. After retiring from his seine boat Bill continued to fish as a ‘sporty’ for recreation on his pleasure boats. Bill and Rita also spent many years traveling in their motor home, camping, and indulging in Bill’s favourite sport of visiting the casino.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Rita; two sisters Peggy Haga and Ethel Major; sister-in-law Peggy Anderson; brother-in-law Jim Munro (Georgia), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Mary Petrie, and his brother John Blenkin (and family).

Bill will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his big smile, for his easy going and good nature, and as always ready to lend a helping hand.
