April 5, 1948-May 11, 2015

It is with great sorrow the family announce the passing of Walter after his courageous battle with cancer. Walter passed away in the comfort of his home with his loving wife Alexandra by his side. Walter is predeceased by his loving parents; father Walter and mother Margaretha, as well as three brothers: Arthur, Lorenz, and Paul. He leaves to mourn many other relatives and friends.

Walter was born and raised in Switzerland. He was trained as a chef in Switzerland. Walter worked in Sweden and England. In 1974, his occupation brought him to Toronto where he worked as a chef at the Four Seasons Hotel. He slowly worked his way across Canada and settled in Campbell River.

An accomplished chef, Walter won the heart of Alexandra with his Rahmschnitzel dish! For forty years, he delighted Campbell Riverites with his talented culinary skills at the Chateau Briand and later the Harbour Grill. Loyal patrons spoke fondly of going to Walter’s for dinner.

Walter had an interest in flora and fauna which took him travelling to all parts of the world, with Brazil being his favorite place. He was an avid boater and fisherman in our local waters.

Walter had a very kind heart and was passionate to help those in need. His sincerity will truly be missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Campbell River Hospice Society in Walter’s name would be gratefully appreciated. The family would like to thank the Home Care nurses and Doctors who cared for Walter during his illness.A private gathering will take place at a later date. The family will honour his wish to take Walter back home to Switzerland.

It doesn’t matter where you are going, it’s who you have beside you.

Love Alexi
