Tina passed away at her home peacefully in her sleep after a prolonged battle with dementia. She was born in Ferwerd, Holland and moved to Canada in 1953 with her first husband and 2 young children. She lived in various coastal communities of British Columbia and the number of children grew to six (not including one who died within a year of birth).

In 1972 she remarried after a divorce and eventually moved to Connecticut in 1978 with her second husband and the 3 youngest children. In 1987 she returned to the West Coast and spent her remaining years between coastal Washington State and coastal British Columbia.

Tina liked shopping, especially garage sales, flea markets, antique shops, Bloomingdales and Lord and Taylor. She was an excellent decorator who instinctively knew what looked good on a person, in a house, or room. She was a wonderful hostess for tea parties with family and friends. Her favorite color was blue. She was excellent at knitting and sewing, leaving behind an immense supply of yarn and needles as dementia started to interfere with her activities.

She is survived by her husband, Jaan; 2 sons, Jelmer and George Van Elk; 2 daughters, Rose-Ella Howie and Rosa- Linda Dorn; 6 grand children and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister and her oldest daughter, Tineka.

She will always stay in our hearts and remembered as somebody who always tried to do her best no matter what the circumstances. Good bye for now, until we meet again.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Sands Funeral Home in Nanaimo and she was interred at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens on February 27, 2018.
