Thomas Edward (Ted) ERVINE

October 7, 2006

ervine,

Thomas

Edward (Ted)

Flight Lieutenant (Ret’d)RAF

September 12, 1920-October 7, 2007

With is family at his side, Ted slipped gently away to join Gaye, his wife of 50 years, and the love of his life.

Ted was a strong, loving and selfless Father to Susan. Father-in-law and dear friend to her husband John MacDonald. He was an exceptionally proud Grandfather to Aaron

Novecosky and Jason (Nina) Novecosky, and Great-grandfather to Ava.

He leaves two sisters whom he held most dear, Marion (Jimmy) Thompson and Lucy (Robert) McClure of Belfast, Northern Ireland, along with numerous nieces and nephews whose youthful spirits gave him much pleasure on his visits.

Ted fought bravely for his country during WWII, having some close calls, and losing some dear friends. He flew long hours throughout the Berlin Airlift. He was most proud of his career as a pilot and flying instructor in the RAF.

Flying was in his blood, but it frightened Gaye, so he gave it up and moved from England to Montreal, Canada, becoming one of Rolls Royce of Canada’s top jet engine specialists, frequently sent out of the country to “trouble-shoot” engine problems.

Seeking a quieter lifestyle Ted became a Financial Advisor, and moved to Victoria in 1973. He rose to the top of his field as one of the leaders in personal financial planning.

He served his community as a member of the Kiwanis Club, and also of the Aircrew Association.

Ted was an accomplished oil and watercolour artist, much of his work reflected his love of the sea, and boats. At his home in Sayward, he would gaze out the front window at ocean and mountain, shaking his head and muttering, “God is a much better artist than I am.”

Ted was much admired and respected for his unfailing courtesy, good manners and old-world charm.

The family wish to thank Dr. C. McFadden and the staff of Yucalta Lodge in Campbell River for the loving care and expertise with which they eased the last years of Ted’s life as well as his passing.

There will be a simple Family gathering in victoria. Friends who wish to honour Ted’s Life may make a donation in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
