Sandra Anne Carnegie

January 8, 1958 - February 5, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandy after a short, painful but very courageous battle with cancer, along with having faced the many challenges of multiple sclerosis for many years, on February 5, 2010 with family by her side.

Sandy was predeceased by her father, John (Red) Backer. She will be forever loved and greatly missed by her husband of 34 years, Sid, her son Marty and daughter-in-law Courtney, her two beloved granddaughters, Madison and Emma. Sandy will also be missed by her mother, Eleonore Backer, brothers Danny, Eldon and Dean, and sister Linda (Klaus) Feldman. Sandy will also be lovingly remembered by countless other family and friends.

Sandy lived life on her own terms, and spent most of her life helping or just being a friend to those in need. She volunteered for many organizations in her community of Campbell River, primarily the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Sandy loved life to the fullest with joy and pride, enjoying the simplest pleasures of life like camping and enjoying nature. Among many things, Sandy was an accomplished flower gardener, fisher, hunter, and crafter, and succeeded in anything she set out to do. But most of all, Sandy dedicated her life to her family. Sandy will be remembered for her sense of humour, kind heart, generosity of her time, summer days she spent in her garden, home-made chocolate chip cookies and most importantly the love she had for her family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Penhall and the home care nursing staff for their loving care and attention. Sandy’s life was a short 52 years, but her footprint will go on forever.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

For those wishing donations in Memory of Sandy can be made to M.S. Society of Canada, P.O. Box 656, Campbell River, BC V9W 6J3.
