It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, papa, son, brother, uncle and friend, Rory Keith McFadden. Rory lived his life with strength, humour, and an unwavering positive attitude.
Rory will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 45 years, Sherry, his daughter Tiffany and husband Braden Elke, grandsons Hudson, Sawyer and Milo, and son Justin.
Forever remembered by his Mother, Valdina and her partner Dennis, sisters Shirley (Larry), Jacqui (Terry), brothers Kevin (Laurie), Lyle and Grant. Never to be forgotten by his in laws Verna and John Faulkner as well as brothers in law Bobe (Debbie) and Glen, and sisters in law Geri (Ron) and Vicki (Bob). Also missed by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews whom he adored. Rory was predeceased by his father Keith in 1972.
Rory was born in Winnipeg. Growing up he lived in several mining towns across Canada, settling in Campbell River in 1974 where he and Sherry raised their family. Rory served his community as a volunteer coach, and as a board member for the United Way, and Campbell River Community Foundation. He shared in many wonderful friendships. His love of a good joke, his laugh, and his genuine interest in people made him friends wherever he went.
For over 40 years Rory spent his work life in mining. He excelled in his work, starting as a ditch digger and was promoted over the years as the industry grew and changed. At the time of his retirement he was the Manager of Health and Safety. He served as a shop steward and President of his union and he was known to be a fair and skillful negotiator. He was very proud to have been the Captain and the Co-Ordinator of the Mine Rescue Team, attending and winning competitions all over Western Canada.
Rory caught the travel bug after a work trip to Sweden. He was happy to return to Europe numerous times on business and with his family. His favorite places included Ireland, The Netherlands and Germany. Shortly after arriving on Maui for the first time Rory declared that it was the best place he ever visited. After that it was a much loved annual winter family vacation.
To Rory, family was a gift to be cherished and everyday he expressed his love for his family in simple and generous gestures. He never missed an opportunity for a hug or a chance to say "Love you guys". His greatest joy were his 3 grandsons. With them he shared his love of sports cars, fishing, and camping and was their biggest fan at every one of their many games or events.
His love of family is his greatest legacy.
