FORTIN, Norman

August 30, 1947-May 12,2014

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Norm Fortin in the Campbell River Hospital after a short battle with cancer.

Norm was born in Noranda, Quebec to William and Violet Fortin. He is predeceased by his mother Violet and step-mom Pauline. Left to mourn are his dad William (Bill); sisters Betty and Marlene; brothers Shane and Edward; step-sister Martha; each of their families and many nieces and nephews. He will also be dearly missed by his friends; particularly the Davis, Murray and Anderson families and his step-children Ben, Al and Hanna.

Norm worked as a hard rock miner for 20 years at Nystar Myra Falls. Those he worked with were important to him and he prided himself on his dedication and hard work.

Norm loved a good story, particularly those he told. His growing up in the town of Lively, Ontario, the hippy days on Read Island, kayak trips, and a short foray into logging, were told in his flamboyant and expressive way. Norm loved the outdoors, fishing, and the bounty of fresh seafood. Yes, Norm was a food guy - enjoying a good meal and a good visit. He liked the free feeling of riding his motorcycle, enjoyed a good game of crib, the beauty of a sunset on Stories Beach, a hearty handshake, and sincere smiles and hugs.

Special thanks to Dr. Jacobs and the home nursing staff for your care, and to Colette for your time and dedication.

At Norm’s request there will be no service. Tip a glass, have a cheer and if you like, make a donation in his memory to the Altrusa Club of Campbell River or the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, 2390 Arbutus Rd, Victoria, BC V8N 1V7.
