April 9, 1935 – April 21, 2019
It is with deep sadness that the family of Yet May Fong, known as May, announces her unexpected passing on April 21st at North Island Hospital with her family by her side.
May was born on April 9, 1935 in the Xinhui District of Guangdong, China. She is predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Sam Leung, her brother Joe and brothers-in-law John and Walter.
May is survived by her husband of 62 years, Mo Cheung (Phillip) Fong, three children Jo-Anne (Gordon), Grant (Melissa), Glen (Tanya), and  her 6 grandchildren Amy, Mya, Jeannine, Kevin, Nathan and Selena. She is also survived by her younger sisters Jean and Moya, sister in law Helena, and life-long friend Linda.
May arrived in Vancouver, Canada in April of 1956. Shortly thereafter she was introduced to Phillip, and got married in 1957. They spent a lifetime working together at The Rose Bowl Restaurant in Campbell River, and to this day it is a memorable place for family and friends to gather and eat. There have been many customers and staff throughout the years that will remember May as an elegant, hardworking and compassionate woman. May enjoyed going for morning walks through downtown Campbell River, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also involved with the International Women’s Group, and was an active member of the Victory Now Church in the last years of her life.
A very special thank you to Dr. Jordan, and all of the caring nurses and staff of North Island Hospital who went above and beyond for May and her family on the day she passed.
Please join us for A Celebration of Life of May Fong on May 29, 2019 at the Bethany Church, 201 Birch Street from 2 pm.
Flowers gratefully declined. Donations to any of May’s favorite charities; Red Cross, Vancouver General Hospital, The North Island Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
