Patte Leask passed away in Campbell River, British Columbia on November 4th 2022. She was born on February 6th 1928 in St John, New Brunswick to Lucy Melita Grant (nee Moult) and Hubert Maitland Grant. Patte is predeceased by her husband Russel (Gus) David Leask and her brother George William Maitland Grant (Christine). She will be missed greatly by her two children; Susan Margaret Leask (David Keiver) and David Grant Leask (Jennifer Armstrong) and her grand children, Emily and Hannah Keiver and Miranda and Malcolm Leask.
Patte was raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia attending Halifax Ladies' College in her youth. Later, moving to Ottawa with her parents, she graduated from Lisgar Collegiate Institute. Patte worked the switchboard at both the National Research Council (NRC) in Ottawa and the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C. It was at the NRC that she met her future husband Gus Leask. They were married on March 14, 1953 and resided in Ottawa. In 1955 they moved to Northern Ontario. Patte and Gus lived for over 55 years in Copper Cliff, Ontario, where they made many life long friends with whom they enjoyed curling, afternoon bridge and dinner parties. Patte loved to cook and was best known for her lively lobster parties. She volunteered with the Girl Guides of Canada and the St. John's Anglican Church.
Following Gus's retirement from INCO they traveled extensively around North America in the family station wagon. They also traveled the world and attended many reunions in Canada and Europe with members of The First Canadian Paratroopers Battalion. In 2005 they moved to Campbell River, British Columbia to enjoy life on the west coast with the lovely views of the coastal mountains and the Strait of Georgia.
Patte enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading mystery novels and was a lifelong gardener and lover of cut flowers. She kept lovely gardens at her home and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in her backyard. She always looked forward to visiting the seashore on sunny days and watching the passing marine traffic.
We will always remember mom for her fantastic sense of humour and her interest in chatting with anyone she met. We smile when we imagine you on your future peregrinations.
