With the deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of Leila Sogawa.
Leila Sogawa, nee Shimizu, was born January 05, 1916, in Hirao, Yamaguchi-ken, Japan. She passed away at Golden Grove Home in Campbell River, Wednesday, April 05, 2017.
Predeceased by her husband Ken, she is survived by daughters Barbara (Bill) and Carol (Allen), two grandsons and five great grandchildren, as well as extended family throughout Canada.
Leila came to Canada in 1931 to join her family already living here. In 1938 she married Ken Sogawa. They first lived in Ocean Falls, later Slocan, and came to Campbell River in 1954. She was a devoted mother and homemaker, a great gardener, and an avid fisherman.
In later years, she travelled to New Zealand, and to various parts of eastern Canada and the United States. She always regretted she had been unable to visit Holland to see tulips in bloom.
The family thanks Dr. Baerg and the staff at Golden Grove, for the care, love and consideration given to Leila in her final years.
According to her wishes, there will be no service.
Sunset and evening star
And one clear call for me
And may there be no moaning of the bar
When I put out to sea!
