Kathleen Mary Tiemens

September 17, 1924 – February 3, 2011

On February 3, 2011 Kay passed away peacefully at Yuculta Lodge. Kay was born on September 17, 1924 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Predeceased by her parents Tom and Helena Devereaux and her brother Bill. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Al Tiemens and her children Denise (Tim), Bruce (Michelle) and Tracy (Gavin); grandchildren Conor, Devin, Taylor, Carson, Rhys and Annaliese.

During the war years Kay served at No. 7 Air Observers School where her brother Bill trained as a navigator. In 1949 Kay moved to Vancouver and worked for B.C. Electric until 1954. On May 9, 1953 she married Al Tiemens and they moved to Ocean Falls in 1955 where they started their family. In 1968 they moved to Port Townsend, Washington returning to Ocean Falls for one year in 1971. They then settled in Campbell River.

Kay started every day with a smile, her greatest joy was being with her family. She set high standards with her wonderful cooking and hostessing skills. Her motto being, “Make sure that everyone who comes into your home leaves happier than when they arrived”. Kay was a very social and caring person who enjoyed volunteering in her community.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Kathleen McFadden and all the staff at Yuculta Lodge for their kind and compassionate care. A very special thank you to Sylvia MacKay. Her laughter, good nature and humour were always enjoyed by Kay, her family and care staff during her weekly visits.

There will be a prayer service followed by a celebration of life at Sequoia Springs Golf Club, 700 Petersen Road, Friday, February 11th at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C. or the B.C. Cancer Society.
