aged 76, passed away tragically on Saturday, February 1st, 2003 in Victoria. Predeceased by his sisters Mia, Hermina and his brother John, Joe is survived by daughter Monika; sons Martin, Edward, Randy and Bernie (Bev); brother Heinrich, Eduard (Regina), Wilma, Annie and Augusta, and many nieces and nephews. Joe served in World War Two and immigrated to Canada in 1954, married his wife Ingeborg on August 5th, 1955 and lived in Black Creek for a number of years prior to his move to Campbell River in 1968, working at Elk Falls Pulp Mill until his retirement. A multi-talented person, he loved arts and crafts, had a skill for writing both poetry and books and a skill for repairing things. Joe will be remembered by many as proprietor of Joe’s Shaver Repair. He was a gifted photographer, a hobby he loved, as well as walks along the beach, time spent with friends in his walking club and coffee group, garage sales and bargain shopping. A true people person, he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. Prayers will be offered on Thursday, February 13th, at 7pm at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, followed by Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 14th at 1:00pm, with Father Joe Rossiter, O.M.I., celebrant. ISLAND FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, 103-909 Island Highway, Campbell River, entrusted with arrangements. For those wishing, donations in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
