Son of the late George and Amy Vanstone, was found deceased on Friday, April 23rd, 2004, in his home, from natural causes. John was born at Nanaimo General Hospital on April 24, 1942. He lived in Campbell River and went to school here till his father died and the family moved to Nanaimo. John started logging when he was just 16 years old at Camp #5 here in Campbell River. In Dec. of 1962 he married Beverley Ann Ryan and they had two children, Rodney John and Correna Beverley, and resided in Nanaimo. John tried his hand at seine fishing and then with his own boat did commercial fishing for a few years. He then moved back to Campbell River and started logging again. John kept active in logging until he was found to have lupus, which quickly sapped his strength. John and his companion, Gail, and the cat ‘Baby’ went fishing, hunting, and camping through all the seasons. John leaves behind his daughter, Correna McWillis, his two grandsons, Steven and Kevin, his sister, Grace Kowbel, his ex-wife Beverley Ryan, Gail’s three daughters Shelly, Simone, Tanya, and their families, stepson Ray Jacobs, and many cousins, neices and nephews. Predeceased before him, his parents, George and Amy Vanstone, grandparents Dave and Eliza Vanstone, John and Etta Neen, his son Rodney, his companion Gail, his brother Norman Vanstone, his brother-in-law Metro (Mac) Kowbel, and many aunts and uncles. John will be missed and is loved by us all. A service for John will take place on Friday, April 30th at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of ELK FALLS CREMATORIUM, at ELK FALLS MEMORIAL CEMETERY, Highway #28 at General Hill. ISLAND FUNERAL SERVICES & CREMATORIUM, 103 - 909 Island Highway (Georgia Quay), Campbell River, entrusted with arrangements.
