John Douglas Shaw

August 30, 2016

August 13, 1956 - August 30, 2016

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Douglas Shaw after a 17 month battle with cancer.

John was born and raised in Quesnel BC, until moving with the family to Campbell River in 1975. John left Campbell River for a short time in order to attend and graduate from BCIT. After graduation, John moved back to what had become home, Campbell River, where he went to work for Island Airlines in Tahsis for a year before moving on to a job with Westmin Mine Operation at Myra Falls where he stayed for 30 years.

John was predeceased by his father Peter in December of 2015 and is survived by his mother Mary; brothers Edward (Linda), Peter (Tina) Paul and sister Cilka (Mark) as well as nieces and nephews and close friends.

One of John’s greatest joys in life was golf. He loved the game and along with his brothers and Dad, they would make numerous trips over the years to golf courses near and far, all over the province. From beautiful high-end courses like Predator Ridge and Crown Royal to courses like Molly Hills where you had to shoot between cow pies, John was in his element. When John wasn’t golfing or hunting with his brothers and Dad in the Kootneys, or out fishing on the Topper III, you always knew where you could find him..at least on Sundays during football season…at home with the game on with a close group of friends, door always open to whoever wanted to stop by and join in the football fun.

John touched many lives and left an indelible mark on those he worked with and on those who were lucky enough to call him a friend. John will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be help October 15th at 1:00pm at the ballroom at the Anchor Inn. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation the Campbell River Hospice Society.
