Jan 7, 1930 – Nov 2, 2017
Johanna De Hoop passed away peacefully on November 2, 2017 at the age of 87 in her final years at the loving Seniors Evergreen Care Home in Campbell River.
Johanna was known for dedication to her family as a loving wife, and an amazing loving mother who did so much for her children and grandchildren.
She always gave her advice on how to live life simply and how to appreciate the things you do have.
Johanna was born in Den Haag, Netherlands along with her 12 brothers and sisters who all survived many hardships and near starvation with the occupation of Holland by the Germans in World War II. Her and her future husband Johannes, who was just released from the Royal Dutch Navy immigrated to Canada in 1953 and ended up in Calgary where they would raise their 4 children.
After retirement and in 1999 they moved to Parksville on Vancouver Island to live out their final years near the ocean to enjoy a climate much like Holland.
She was predeceased by her husband Johannes in 2000. Johanna was a proud mother and is survived by her 4 children and their spouses, Terry De Hoop, Irene Scorgie (Gary), John De Hoop (Nicole), and Randy De Hoop (Cheryl). She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, Kylee Lauinger (Matt), Kristina McIsaac (Zackary), Tyler Scorgie (Vanessa Schulz), Ashleigh, Rachel, Marissa, Chelsea, Colton, and Caelin and 5 great grandchildren Kayne, Jace, Brielle, Peyton, and Taygan.
In July 2015, Johanna’s dementia had progressed and she could no longer live on her own. The family made the difficult decision to place Johanna in the Evergreen Seniors Care Home. From the beginning, it was apparent we had chosen the right place for our mom to live out her final years with the warm and loving transition from Cindy, Karena and their dedicated caregivers at Evergreen. It is no accident that the staff there are amazing. They became our extended family as Johanna always felt as if they were her family with the care, laughter, love, sharing, and endless hugs and kisses.
She was very much loved and cherished by her entire immediate family and her extended family at Evergreen.
Our family extends the warmest gratitude to the Evergreen Team.
Johanna will be dearly missed by all whom hearts she touched and who touched hers. A celebration of Johanna’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Rest in Peace mama “Tomorrow is Another Day”
