BURGESS,

Hartley (Jake)

Passed away peacefully August 9, 2007 at Yuculta Lodge with his family at his side. He was born January 1, 1932 at the Lourdes Hospital in Campbell River. Jake worked for the CPR, Elk River Timber, on the construction of John Hart Dam, BC transit, and retired as a millwright from Elk Falls Mill.

Jake is survived by Alta, his beloved wife of 53 years, his sons Raymond (Eva) and Bob (Kate), grandchildren Ronni (Martin) Pakosz, Paula (Terry) Pearson, Maria (Adam) Mathison, and great-grandchildren Benjamin, Liam, and Emma Pakosz, and Rayanne and Zachery Pearson. Jake is also survived by his sister Thelma and many nieces and nephews.

Jake enjoyed years of fishing, hunting, camping, shuffle board, travelling, and winters in Yuma, Arizona. His greatest joy was his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jake was a gracious, kind, loving man, with a great laugh. Friends and family gathered for a celebration of Jake’s life on Monday, August 13th, 2007.

Thank you to all our family and friends who were always there to support us through the months of Jake’s illness. Thank you for your gifts of flowers, food, hugs, and love throughout this past week. We are so blessed. We would like to give sincere thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Yuculta Lodge. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC or the BC Children’s Hospital.
