Grace M. VALLIS,

May 6, 2004

VALLIS,

Grace M.

1915 - 2004

Grace died on May 6th, 2004 at Campbell River Hospital fighting leukemia with her feisty spirit. She was born February 6th, 1915 in London, England. Grace was predeceased by her husband Frank M. Vallis. She leaves to celebrate her life, daughter Norma Soderholm (Helmer), granddaughter Michele Grace Vallis, friends here and family in England. A special mention of Diane who took care of her and also a doctor who was the second love of her life!!!

She was a Cockney, born in the old Kent Road in South East London within the sound of the bells of Bow Church. Surrounded by a large family of siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and many, many friends. Money was sparse but family ties were strong and there were lots of "knees up" gatherings! "Gracie" met the only love of her life at age 18 years, Frank, and they soon married. He was a postman and Mum said of him, that he came from the "wilds" of Lancashire and spoke with a "funny accent"! World War II began and Frank left for combat. Mum took over his job as a mail lady, with a multitude of tales to tell following the London blitz. Some years later they came to Canada, eventually living in Campbell River which took some while to convince them that there were no cougars or bears roaming the streets!! A Private Gathering will be held at a later date in the Abbeyfield House in Courtenay, where she spent many hours. ISLAND FUNERAL SERVICES/ ELK FALLS CREMATORIUM 103 - 909 ISLAND HIGHWAY, CAMPBELL RIVER entrusted with arrangements. No flowers by request but donations in memory of Grace to the Abbeyfield House, 994 - 8th St., Courtenay, B.C. V9N 9G1 would be appreciated.
