May 31st, 1951 - July 5th, 2017

Grace passed away surrounded by loved ones, with her beloved grand-dog resting at her feet July 5th, 2017. Predeceased by her husband, Lorne Kennedy, and parents, Agnes and George Clarke, Grace is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Dave) and Tracy (Colin), her brother, Bob (Sylvia), nephew Jason (Deb), and her five grandchildren—her pride and joy—Brittlyn, Catalina, Mackenzie, Jesse, and Brock. Grace was proudly born in Swan River Manitoba. She always said that you could tell a person was from the prairies within just a few minutes of conversation, as they were generally kind, generous, and welcoming. Based on her own definition, Grace was definitely a prairie girl. Grace moved to BC when she was ten years old and settled in Campbell River where she attended Campbellton Elementary and Campbell River High School. She eventually met her husband, Lorne, who came with one of Grace’s greatest gifts—his daughter Tracy. Lorne and Grace were blessed with another baby girl, their “Dolly” Jennifer in 1976. Grace made connections everywhere she went. Serving “her” customers for many years in Campbell River at Sears, the Credit Union, the Eagles, the Duncan Bay Store, and the Mac’s Store in Nanaimo, Grace took tremendous pride in customer service and was thrilled when customers became her friends. Grace’s house was always full of laughter and love, and there was always a seat at her table. Grace was always quick to stop and chat, and if you were lucky enough to be her Facebook Friend, you were no doubt blessed by her quick “likes” and positive loving comments. She was an incredible example of kindness, strength, loyalty, patience, and forgiveness. Grace was a model patient as she greeted every medical professional with a “hello, how is your day”, and always concluded with a “thank you so much.” Thank you to Dr. Calvin and to the incredible staff on the 5th floor and Palliative Ward at NRGH. All of our gratitude goes to Nanaimo Home Support and Palliative Home Care Nursing for supporting Grace’s wish to come home and “watch her hummingbirds and count the boats.” Your care for both Grace and our family was a bright spot in a very difficult time. A celebration of life will be held at The Eagles Hall on Friday August 18th, 2017 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nanaimo Palliative Care or to the SPCA nearest you. Grace was a mom to many and a friend to even more. We will miss you much, remember you often, and love you always.
