Dorothy Jane 'Dot' Finnerty (nee Brook)

July 9, 2021

April 5, 1920 - July 9, 2021
In loving memory ~
Born April 5th, 1920 in Kelso SK. Passed away peacefully July 9th, 2021 after a brief illness with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Jack, brother Cyril and son Pat. She is survived by her sister Edna, daughter Brenda (Peter), son Dale (Judy) along with 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Dot was loved and cherished by everyone that knew her. Her smile could light up a room and her never ending one-liners and sense of humour never faltered even when days were challenging. She often said there is no point to life if you can't laugh and find humour.
She was known to say "why be miserable, if you are, no one wants to be around you"! She always lived her days in gratitude and appreciation for everything she had, her family and to those that cared for her.
Music was a big part of her life and she will be held close in the hearts of those who sang along with her to her favourite playlist. We will remember her tapping her toes and singing Pistol Packin' Mamma forever! Dot's final days came full circle as she was able to gaze out over the islands that she rowed to with her husband Jack when they first moved to Victoria in 1947.
In 1956 Dot and her husband purchased land and built Finnerty's campsite at Saratoga Beach. The Saturday night dances were legendary and a highlight for locals and tourists from miles around. In 1970 they returned to Victoria where Dot managed motels until her retirement. Dot was always up for adventure and was never happier than when she was gathering firewood, building campfires and playing with grandchildren.
The depth of our grief mirrors our love and the vast emptiness she leaves behind, but we will forever embrace our memories of the best mom and gma that ever lived. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr Ted Rosenberg and team, and the staff that cared for her and supported the family at RJH. Donations in Dot's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of BC.
