June 27, 1934 - August 24, 2019
Cecilia "Cec" Sutherland, age 85, passed away surrounded by her family Saturday August 24th 2019. From her birth in Manning Alberta, on June 27, 1934, to her passing on Saturday she nourished those around her with love, faith and kindness.
She was born in Manning, Alberta to Emma and Seraphim Hartman and was one of 17 siblings. Having so many brother and sisters gave her a lot of practice caring for others and may have been the reason she chose nursing after graduating high school. She found her way to Alert Bay where she met her husband Ian.
Cecilia and Ian eventually moved to Sayward, B.C., where they raised 3 sons, Lorne, Neil, and Iain. She became a part of the Sayward community for almost 60 years helping out where she could, working in her garden and raising a family. Summers were spent traveling around BC discovering everything its many lakes and towns had to offer. Sunday mornings were spent in church, where she was able to have a moment in the every changing world to reflect and give thanks for all that she had in her life. In her later years you could find her in her garden or walking to the river with her husband.
All that met and had the pleasure of spending time with Cecilia know that she was a woman who saw the best in people and in turn brought out the best. She will be best remembered for her infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit.
Left to honor Cec and remember her love are her husband of 60 years Ian; her sons, Lorne, Neil (Jennifer), and Iain; 5 grandchildren, Heron, Jade, Jacob, Jordan and Kaidyn; her brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 28th 2019 at 11 am at St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 34 S Alder St, Campbell River with a celebration of life to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Cecilia's name, to Alzheimer's Society of BC.
