After a short and courageous battle with cancer, Buford passed away in the Campbell River Hospital.
Buford was born in Spallumcheen and lived in Bella Coola and Naramata before settling in Heriot Bay. He married Louise Henshall on May 9, 1946. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2006.
Buford is survived by his loving wife Louise, son Larry Haines (Patricia) and daughter Lynda Grycan (Glenn), grandchildren Vicki Lagos (Dan), Dean Grycan (Maria) and Geoff Haines, and beloved great grandchildren Brady and Mackenna. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that were very special to him.
Buford was predeceased by his brothers Robert and Dayton, and sisters Flora, Ruby and Effie.
Buford was a father, teacher, mentor and friend to everyone who knew him.
His career as a fisherman and boat builder gave him great joy and satisfaction. Up until the fall of 2006 he was actively involved in overseeing the restoration of the BCP 45 at the Campbell River Marine Heritage Centre and leaves behind many special friends he made there.
A special thank-you to his brother-in-law Russ Henshall (Janet), nephew Barry Henshall (Carolyn) and long time friend Mike Morin (Ronnice).
Many thanks to the doctors and nurses in Campbell River for their ongoing care, especially Dr. Proctor and Dr. Crosby.
A celebration of Buford's life will be held at the Campbell River Marine Heritage Centre on Saturday, March 24th at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the BC Cancer Agency or the Marine Heritage Centre would be appreciated.
