REID,

Alexander (Alistair)

May 10, 1933 – May 12, 2008

Dad passed peacefully in the comfort of his home Monday morning. He leaves behind his three daughters Muriel (Joe) Richardson, Louise (Tom) Olsen and Alexandria Reid, his grandchildren Thomas Lukas Olsen (Robyn), Alexander Layne Olsen (Christie) and Justeen Levon Olsen, his sisters Isobel Burton and family, Thelma Bell and family, special nephew Rodney (Ronalee) Navid, Cody and Kaili and many relatives in Scotland. He was predeceased by his loving wife of fifty years, Muriel and his parents Dorothy and Peter (Scotty) Reid.

Dad was born in Port Gordon, Scotland, the only son to Dorothy and Peter. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 and worked on construction in the Campbell River area including the John Hart Dam project and the Carihi School. In the late fifties, Dad moved with his family to Quadra Island and immersed himself in the Island and fishing life. He was a Master Seaman and in 1972 built the MV ‘Loumural’ named for his girls. He sailed the coast with nephew Rodney packing for Ocean Fisheries until his retirement. He and Mom spent their final years in Campbell River enjoying one of the most magnificent views in the area.

Dad was very involved in the concordant bodies of Free Masonry and was Grand Master of British Columbia and Yukon 1996-1997. He was Associate Guardian for Job’s Daughters Bethal #29 and #08. He participated as a volunteer driver with the Freemasons Cancer program. He enjoyed his morning coffee group at Tim Horton’s and was an avid fan of the slot machines even before he won the big jackpot.

He was a kind, patient, accepting, forgiving and honest man. He gave endlessly to the community and his family. He was a wonderful grandfather, a willing babysitter, chauffeur, handyman, lunch partner, cheerleader and friend. His beautiful tenor voice and musical talents will be missed on earth but now enjoyed by his greatest fan, Mom. We hope that all daughters are loved and cherished as we were…. Muriel, Louise and Alexandria
