Alan Francis "Mitch"


Passed away at home in Campbell River on Tuesday, June 19th, 2007. Mitch was born in Nova Scotia on August 19th, 1937. He was predeceased by parents John and Marie Michie and brother Phillip.

He is survived by step sons David (Sherry), Sean both of Campbell River; step daughters Kathy (Colin) of Nanaimo, Patty (Randy) and Jeanette (Kent) both of Campbell River; grandchildren Breanna, Amber, Gerry, Jody, John, Cody, Nick, C.J., Dallas, Kyle, Rikki, Kayla; and great grandchild Katie; brothers John of Ontario, Paul (Lorraine) of Nova Scotia, and James (Judith) of the Yukon; sister-in-law Peggy of Maine; together with many nieces and nephews; many close friends and fellow workers; adopted family Mac and Jenny Cameron and their children and families; many aunts and uncles.

Mitch served in the Canadian Forces from 1954 to 1958, and belonged to the Eagles Club and Legion.

Mitch left Nova Scotia in 1959, and worked in a sawmill near Golden and made many close friends there. In 1964 he came to the Island and started logging for Rainier, also worked for a pile driving company for awhile. Most of his logging years were for Canfor and he stayed in camp at Nimpkish and Woss. Mitch also worked on the bridge crew there and in the fireshop his last few years before retirement in 2002.

Mitch enjoyed skydiving, skating, hunting, fishing, picnics with friends and family, photography and motorcycle rides. He also enjoyed meeting for coffee and breakfast with family and friends.

Mitch was an honest, trustworthy, giving person who was always there with a helping hand. Being a father came natural to him, as well as a good friend to many. Many will recall the good stories that Mitch told.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Cancer Society, 1423B-16th Avenue, Campbell River, B.C. V9W 2C4.

A Celebration of Life Tea will be held in Mitch’s memory at the home of Jim and Diane Work on Sunday, July 22nd, 2007, at 1:00pm, 2485 Charleville Road, Campbell River (corner of Detweiler Road).
