Worst fears confirmed, missing woman was murdered, say police

A Hanson Island resident is accused of killing his 41-year-old wife, Jennifer McPherson

The husband of a missing Hanson Island woman has been charged with her murder.

Jennifer McPherson, 41, was last seen by her family on April 29, on the small island, located about eight kilometres northeast of Telegraph Cove in Johnstone Strait.

Her disappearance sparked an intensive four day-search involving dozens of officers from the RCMP Island District Tactical Troop, air services, police dogs, the dive team and other major crimes investigators.

Late Monday afternoon though, the family’s worst fears were realized when police confirmed she had been murdered. Human remains found are believed to be those of McPherson.

Her husband, 37-year-old Traigo Ehkid Andrett, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He is being held in custody and is due to appear in Campbell River provincial court on Monday.

“Our investigators remain focused on conducting a thorough search of Hanson Island for any evidence,” Sgt. Kevin Mazur of the Island Integrated Major Crime Unit.
