A tentative agreement has been struck at the Myra Falls mine.
A deal was reached Tuesday between reprsentatives of Local 3019 of the Canadian Auto Workers and the mine company, Nyrstar.
No details were released and union executives were still working to arrange voting dates for next week to either ratify or reject the contract.
It is believed union members were seeking at least a $3-$5 per hour wage increase and other benefits.
Last Friday, the union provided the company with a 72-hour strike notice after the two sides failed to reach an agreement. The strike vote was ratified by 99.5 per cent of the membership.
The union was set to strike today, but that was averted when the tentative agreement was reached.
Nyrstar has made no comment on the labour situation.
The Myra Falls operation – located approximately 90 kilometres west of Campbell River in Strathcona Provincial Park – employs 282 people. The mine produces zinc, copper and lead concentrates, along with silver and gold.
