Vote counting is complete in the North Island-Powell River riding, with NDP candidate Rachel Blaney remaining on as the riding’s MP.
Special ballots are the vote by mail ballots, which are counted starting the day after the election. A total of 8,446 special ballots were received in the riding. Those special ballots were counted over the past few days, and generally followed the pattern of in-person votes.
Blaney received 23,833 votes or 39.5 per cent. Conservative candidate Shelley Downey got 21,670 votes (36 per cent), and Liberal Party of Canada candidate Jennifer Grenz received at 7,922 votes (13.1 per cent).
The unofficial voter turn out was 65.38 per cent, or 60,684 voters of a total 92,814 possible. That number does not include electors who registered on election day.
In 2019, 62,915 valid ballots were cast in the riding, representing 70.57 per cent of eligible voters.
