Road repair work at St. Ann’s and Alder and at Evergreen and Petersen were both completed faster than anticipated, and drivers will notice Alder Street between 9th Avenue and St. Ann’s is now a three-lane route with bicycle lanes for improved safety.
Work at the two intersections involved lifting and grinding the existing asphalt, then re-constituting it and re-applying it on the road surface. The City had advised the public that the work was expected to take two days at each location but in the end it only took one day. Drivers were advised to take alternative routes if possible to avoid anticipated delays during the construction.
“We know that traffic delays are inconvenient for people getting around town, and the combination of good weather and crew efficiency accelerated the work at both locations,” said Drew Hadfield, the city’s transportation manager.
Tayco Paving, a contractor for the city, had completed the work at St. Ann’s and Alder by early Monday afternoon. The work at Evergreen and Petersen was completed later that day.
“As predicted, there were some minor delays for drivers at these intersections on Monday, but Tayco’s efficiency gave us full access to these intersections again on Tuesday,” Hadfield said. “The city appreciates the patience and understanding of drivers that were inconvenienced with this scheduled work.”
