The Rivercorp board of directors has decided to move forward without its chief executive officer.
Vic Goodman is leaving the municipal economic development corporation, a lightning rod for criticism during last month’s municipal election campaign and frequently criticized for a lack of visible results.
But none of that was touched on in an announcement released Monday.
“Vic Goodman has led Campbell River’s economic development corporation since the summer of 2011, and his work has supported many initiatives that have enhanced our community and region by promoting local economic advantages to businesses, investors and visitors,” says Rivercorp vice-chairman Bruce Woytuik. “We recognize how fortunate we have been to have had the benefit of Vic’s experience and dedication, and we all extend our thanks and our best wishes to Vic for the future.”
Goodman and the board came to an agreement on the decision to change leadership in late November.
“It has been challenging and rewarding work to share the clear competitive advantages our community has for economic development,” says Goodman. “We have so much to build on in Campbell River, and I am confident the Rivercorp board and the community have a solid foundation for a more diversified and entrepreneurial economic future.”
“Rivercorp has no immediate plans to fill the CEO position and will undertake an internal review of our priorities and ways to revitalize economic development initiatives, including best options for an organizational structure, in conjunction with city council in the new year,” Woytuik adds.
The Campbell River Economic Development Corporation, Rivercorp, is responsible for economic development, Tourism Campbell River & Region and the Campbell River Visitor Centre.
