POLICE BEAT: Drugs, loaded gun found

Three men who are well-known to Campbell River RCMP were arrested in a vehicle

Three men well-known to police were arrested early Friday morning after Mounties found drugs and a loaded handgun.

The arrest took place around 4 a.m. on the Jubilee Parkway after RCMP stopped the vehicle they were travelling in.

Facing charges of possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a restricted firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance are Lucas John Makoseij, 31, Charles Ryan Lafleur, 28, and Devin Alexander Clark, 31. All are from Campbell River.

Lafleur remains in custody while Makoseij and Clark were released on a recognizance with numerous conditions. Their next court date is Aug. 13.

Shots not fired, but axe found

Police responded to a report of shots fired during an altercation near the 2700 block of the South Island Highway on July 23 at 10:30 p.m.

Upon arrival it was quickly determined that there was no firearm involved. However, a male and female had been involved in a fight with another female.

The victim suffered minor injuries and her car had been damaged with an axe. The male and female will be facing assault and mischief charges. All parties were known to police.

Cash stolen

On July 24, at 9:45 a.m., police were called to a B&E in the 1700 block of the Island Hwy.

The suspect broke in through a vacant office adjoining the unit.  Once inside the thief targeted a cash box containing the day’s float. Anyone with information is asked to contact Campbell River RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
