There’s a new coordinator at the Strathcona Community Health Network.

As part of a push to reinvigorate the network, which has been on hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, new coordinator Madison Stewart will be working to bring in new members.

The network was formed in 2015 following a community forum with over 170 participants. The goal is to give groups the chance to collaborate and intervene on issues impacting health and wellness, particularly about the social determinants of health at a systemic level. Eight priorities of the network are First Nations and cultural safety, network development, healthy children, food security, housing, ageing and caregiver support, and connectivity.

“The SRD is pleased to have filled the coordinator role and be in a position to bring on additional support at the table level to move forward the many initiatives addressing the social determinants of health within the region,” says Aniko Nelson, SRD Senior Manager, Community Services. “We are hopeful that we will receive interest from a wide spectrum of individuals throughout the SRD that can lend their experience and passion to improve the overall health of our residents.”

Community members throughout the Strathcona Regional District can apply for a seat at the table of partners until June 15. Having a table of partners ensures that the diverse regional voices are represented and heard. The group meets every month and work to move the network forward through strategic planning and making use of the human and financial resources available.
