Campbell River will be seen on television sets across North America next month.
A film crew from World of Adventure Sports shot footage in the Campbell River area last week for its next episode, slated to air Sept. 10 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. on NBC.
Campbell River was selected to host the show which will feature Mount Washington’s Bearclaw Invitational mountain bike challenge along with four or five vignettes – short pieces of footage – showcasing the city.
“We tried to feature things that you can only do in Campbell River,” said Teresa Davis, tourism manager for Tourism Campbell River and Region.
The crew was treated to a tidal rapid tour by zodiac, snorkelling with the salmon along the Campbell River and fishing in the Tyee Pool.
Todd Harris from NBC Sports, the host of the Emmy-winning show, and the rest of the film crew also spent last Friday morning at the Discovery Fishing Pier to catch Campbell Riverites in action, enjoying the warm summer day.
The show typically follows extreme sporting events and other adventure excursions.
The Bear Claw Invitational, which features world-class mountain bikers, and the Campbell River footage will make up one of four segments on the September episode.
The remainder of the show follows a motocross tour in California and Oregon and a Red Bull surfing challenge in the Mentawai Islands, off Sumatra in Indonesia.
World of Adventure Sports is not the first production to be shot in the Campbell River area this summer.
Last week Robson Green, a well-known actor in Britain, brought his Extreme Fishing show to Campbell River. His crew also filmed in the Tyee Pool and was rowed out by Coun. Roy Grant.
Prior to that, a series of stunts were filmed for G.I. Joe 2 a couple of weeks ago at Bute Inlet, and an Australian film crew is expected to shoot a salmon documentary in Campbell River sometime this month.
