Leak in Campbell River's Centennial outdoor pool repaired

The age of the pool made it challenging to locate the leak, which turned out to be in the floor drains of the main tank

The Centennial Pool is back in operation and will be open in time for the first day of summer.

“We’re very pleased to advise that the outdoor pool will be operating on its regular schedule as of Thursday, June 21,” says Ross Milnthorp, the City’s general manager of parks, recreation and culture.

The 52-year-old pool was closed when a leak was noticed June 8. The age of the pool made it challenging to locate the leak, which turned out to be in the floor drains of the main tank.

“The leak has been repaired, and we are in the process of re-heating and re-balancing the water chemistry,” Milnthorp says.

“Staff have done an excellent job of staying in constant contact with our user groups, renters and the general public to keep them informed of the situation and our progress, and we appreciate everyone’s patience while we worked to fix this problem,” he adds.

The kayak club is scheduled to rent the pool Wednesday evening, and the swim team will be in for their regular practice Thursday morning, followed by school rentals and the regular weekday public swim from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

The Centennial Pool was constructed by the Rotary Club in 1960 and turned over to the municipality.
