The Museum at Campbell River wants to be part of your literacy week plans, and is offering free admission from Jan. 26 to 29.

You may wonder, what does a museum have to do with literacy?

An abundance of research has been done on this very subject, and it shows without a doubt that there are many benefits of bringing children to museums.  Museums allow us to get a glimpse of other times and places and to learn about how other people lived.  This develops curiosity, empathy, critical thinking and other skills.  Guests at the museum are encouraged to ask questions and have discussions about what they see.

Erika Anderson works at the Museum at Campbell River and has a six-year-old son who visits the Museum frequently.

“I have been bringing my son to museums since he was a toddler,” she says. “He has been to the Museum at Campbell River dozens of times, and every time he notices something new, he comes up with different questions to ask, and we have discussions on different topics relating to what he has seen.”

Take some time with your kids, your grandparents, your aunts and uncles or your friends to enjoy a memorable immersive learning experience during Literacy Week Jan. 26 to 29.

You’ll enjoy the trip, gain all kinds of benefits and it will be free!  The Museum is open from Noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
