Four killed in head-on collision east of Gold River

Four people were killed in a head-on collision near Gold River on Friday.

RCMP say the crash happened on Highway 28 around 5:30 p.m. roughly 25 kilometres east of Gold River.

Officials report a 1992 Buick was travelling eastbound, crossed the centre line and collided with a westbound pick-up truck. The Buick went off the road and down an embankment, RCMP say.

All four people travelling in the Buick were killed in the collision. The driver of the pick-up truck suffered minor injuries and has been released from hospital.

RCMP say driving conditions included black ice and slushy road conditions. The accident is still under investigation.

North Vancouver Island Traffic Services, Campbell River Municipal Traffic, Nootka Sound RCMP, the North Island Collision Analyst/Reconstructionist Unit, Gold River Fire Department, BC Ambulance and the BC Coroner Service attended the scene.
