The Campbell River Chamber will host the Steve Thomson, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations at a Chamber members and guests luncheon.

The luncheon takes place this Friday, July 15 at the Anchor Inn from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.  A few tickets remain for this event, so visit www.campbellriverchamber.ca or connect with the Chamber at 250-287-4636 to get one.

Thomson’s mandate incudes climate change and adaptation, BC wildfire service, fish, wildlife and habitat management, land based investment strategy and crown land policies.

“We have a vested interest in all of these topics and how it relates to Campbell River’s sustainable natural resource sectors and our  rich natural environment,” says Campbell River Board Chair, Corby Lamb.

Most recently, the Campbell River Chamber developed a policy on The Creation of a Sustainable and Prosperous Forestry Industry that was voted on and approved by all Chambers represented at the BC Chamber AGM.

“Our policy included recommendations to government to support this industry. Creating policies that address the needs of our members and then advocating on their behalf is a key role of our Chamber,” Lamb says.

Attendees will have a chance to learn, ask questions and connect with the minister as well as community members on issues, concerns and opportunities that impact their businesses and quality of life.

“The Chamber welcomes this opportunity to advocate on behalf of our members and businesses in support of these important sectors to our community, quality of life and job creation,” says Chamber CEO Colleen Evans.  Minister Thomson was re-elected to represent the riding of Kelowna-Mission in 2013 and was reappointed as the Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations on June 10, 2013. Prior to being reappointed as Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, he served as Minister of Natural Resource Operations, Minister of Energy, and Minister of Agriculture and Lands.
