Daytime closures on Brewster Lake Rd.

The road which crosses Campbell River's John Hart Dam will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m until Feb. 13

Brewster Lake Road across the John Hart Dam will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Feb. 13.

The closure across the dam is required so that BC Hydro crews can bring in cranes and equipment for the annual spillway gate maintenance works.

There are three spillway gates that undergo scheduled maintenance so they are reliable in case of a flood. A minimum fish habitat flow down Elk Falls Canyon is also passed through the gates.

Elk Falls Provincial Park will still be accessible from Brewster Lake Road off Highway 28, as well as from the new parking lot and trail from the John Hart Project Interpretive Centre.

All vehicle traffic during the road closure is asked to use Highway 28 to Highway 19, and then around the area via Duncan Bay/Gordon Road.

This road closure is not related to the upcoming John Hart Generating Station Replacement Project construction. The closure will be in effect later this year until 2018.
