Wildfire in Chemainus River Provincial Park under control

Crews are working to knock down 0.3 hectare blaze between Chemainus and Cowichan Lake

UPDATE: The B.C. Wildfire Service says that the 0.3-hectare fire in Chemainus River Provincial Park is now under control.

The fire was first reported around noon on August 4 in the backcountry between Chemainus and Lake Cowichan near Big Sicker Mountain.

B.C. Wildfire Service dispatched an officer, an initial attack crew and a helicopter to fight the fire. They were also being by the North Cowichan Fire Department.

The fire is suspected to be caused by human activity.
