The City of Campbell River has given Coastal Animal Control Services another five years of providing animal control services to the community.
Council brought the Duncan-based company to town in 2013 after it underbid the SPCA for the city’s animal control services contract, much to the chagrin of many in the community. The decision to award the initial five-year contract to Coastal caused a financial shortfall for the SPCA, forcing them to close up shop in Campbell River. The SPCA would return about a year later, however, when they found space available downtown next to the Navy League Hall to open an animal education and adoption centre. The new five-year Coastal Animal Control Services contract comes after they were the only bid on the city’s Request for Proposals which closed March 22 and is worth $138,000 per year, excluding GST and CIP adjustments.
