Campfire ban imposed for Strathcona Regional District

Campfires, beach fires and backyard fires all prohibited until conditions improve

The Strathcona Regional District has imposed a fire ban on all beach fires, back yard fires and campfires within the district.

This is in keeping with the Coastal Fire Centre’s prohibition on Category 1, 2 and 3 open burning. The ban was imposed as of noon on June 8.

“This prohibition is being enacted to help reduce human-caused wildfires and protect public safety,” a release from the SRD says.

The prohibition will remain in effect until conditions change, but it is expected to remain until the end of October.

- All of Electoral Area A (Sayward Valley)

- All of Electoral Area B (Cortes Island)

- All of Electoral Area C (Quadra & Discovery Islands) EXCEPT the area within the South Quadra Island Improvement District

- All of Electoral Area D (Oyster Bay / Buttle Lake) EXCEPT for the area within the Black Creek / Oyster Bay Fire Protection Local Area.
