The Strathcona Regional District has imposed a fire ban on all beach fires, back yard fires and campfires within the district.

This is in keeping with the Coastal Fire Centre’s prohibition on Category 1, 2 and 3 open burning. The ban was imposed as of noon on June 8.

“This prohibition is being enacted to help reduce human-caused wildfires and protect public safety,” a release from the SRD says.

The prohibition will remain in effect until conditions change, but it is expected to remain until the end of October.
