Campbell River residents invited to review Zoning Bylaw

Not a complete overhaul , just an update to make sure consistent with the Official Community Plan.

The City of Campbell River is inviting all citizens, businesses and community organizations to get involved in the review of the Zoning Bylaw.

“This highly collaborative process will take place over the next year and include many opportunities for community dialogue,” says Kevin Brooks, the City’s development services supervisor.

The first public open house event will take place Tuesday, May 2 at the Maritime Heritage Centre. This drop-in event will run from 5 to 8 p.m., providing an opportunity for people to learn more and share their ideas through fun, interactive activities.

Some key topics to address through this process include:

1. Alignment of the community vision and land uses in Quinsam Heights

2. Provisions for secondary suites

3. Clarifying commercial zone uses

4. Land uses permitted on the estuary

5. Clarifying bylaw interpretation

This project is not a complete overhaul of the existing Zoning Bylaw, rather an update to make sure the Zoning Bylaw is consistent with the Sustainable Official Community Plan.

“The Sustainable Official Community Plan review occurred in 2016 and laid the foundation for the Zoning Bylaw conversation with the community,” says deputy City manager and general manager of operations Ron Neufeld. “The City continues to work to streamline and align the SOCP and Zoning Bylaw. We encourage people to participate and share their ideas. It is essential that this is done with input from the community to make sure that we are working towards the community vision set out in the SOCP.”
