A driver pulled over when the engine in his truck started smoking while he was driving north on the Inland Island Highway between Cranberry Lane and Jubilee Parkway this afternoon at around 4 p.m.
Campbell River Fire responded, dousing the flames while the RCMP shut down the highway, said firefighter John Vaton.
There were no injuries.
